If there are two words that define Malaysia’s relationship with AI, they are: Invested and ambitious.

Many indicators point to this. The country’s 2026 budget allocated RM53 million to MDAG (Malaysia Digital Acceleration Grant), RM18 million to the National AI Office, and RM2 billion to establish a Sovereign AI Cloud. At the same time, data from Microsoft’s Work Trend Index, shows that 86% of Malaysian leaders say they’re confident they’ll use agents as digital team members in the next 12 to 18 months.

But behind these encouraging numbers lies a starker reality. One that depicts significant gaps in organisational readiness, which limits the ability of businesses to deploy AI effectively, scale beyond pilots or basic uses, and generate consistent value and RoI.

Research from AWS reveals that only 12% of large Malaysian organisations have a comprehensive AI strategy in place. And that for 74%, AI adoption remains at basic levels. This is echoed in findings from CPA Australia’s Business Technology Survey, which shows that a mere 11% of Malaysian businesses have embedded AI across their operations.

What can Malaysian organisations do to bridge this gap between enthusiasm and execution?

The Three Capabilities Malaysian Organisations Require

Inside the guide, you will learn the three enterprise capabilities that separate AI leaders from the rest, enable organisations to scale AI initiatives, and generate outsized value.

  • Data & AI Infrastructure: An integrated, scalable data and technology foundation that enables consistent data access, advanced analytics, and enterprise-wide AI deployment.
  • People & Governance: Policies and programs encompassing talent, operating models, and governance structures to ensure the responsible, secure, and effective use of data and AI.
  • An AI Value Realisation Model: A structured approach to prioritising, and scaling high-impact AI and analytics applications, supported by ecosystem partnerships, which together drive long-term value creation.

The guide also explores practical applications of AI and analytics across customer retention, financial and sales analytics, ESG and compliance reporting, and operational intelligence.
